Philips Norelco 8140XL SpeedXL Men’s Shaver (Health and Beauty) I went through two of these over the last 3 years. The first one failed after one year. I received a replacement from Norelco because it was still under warrenty. The second one lasted two years. I opened it up and it appeared the motor burned out. There was a burnt smell coming from the motor.I liked the shave but these things just do not last very long. I have a 15 yr old 885RX and it works great. Still gives a pretty good shsve. You can see the difference in quality. The 885RX had much better construction than the 8140. I just ordered a Panasonic ES7103K. The reviews indicate it is well constructed. |

Philips Norelco 7340 XL Rechargeable Cordless Electric Razor (Misc.) I think this was an old model when I bought it over a year ago. Now it may be discontinued. My reason for this review is to warn that this model Norelco has no warning light that the power is about gone. In fact, it just quits all of a sudden, and usually when I’m in the midst of shaving. Bummer. So, I plug it in and finish the shave and then leave it plugged in till next morning. This sounds like a minor inconvenience but, for me, it really bugs me that Norelco would scrimp on such a basic component of a cordless razor . Also, don’t buy from a third party, even if fulfilled by Amazon. This often indicates a model discontinued by the manufacturer, and sometimes indicates the product is counterfeit. Don’t ask me how I know this… |

Philips Norelco 7340 Men’s Shaving System (Health and Beauty) This shaver has definitely lived up the billing! I have had multiple value shavers that were ok, but took a long time to give an only decent shave. When I tried this one, the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. Even though it sounds like it’s barely running, it has given a nice , close shave on my face. And it only takes 1 or 2 passes at my face to be able to do that. Before, one side of my neck had always left hairs when any electric shavers tried to shave them. I was surprised and happy when this razor left my neck very smooth.The first battery charge has lasted for weeks now with out the need for another charge. It’s also easy to hold for my somewhat small hands. The only bad thing about it was that the packaging was a little difficult to get into initially in order to get the razor . But once I managed to get it out, it has gone above and beyond any other razor I’ve ever owned. |

Philips Norelco SensoTouch Electric razor 1160X Anti-slip grip with GyroFlex 2D I’ve been using Norelco razors for many years, and this one provides one of the best shaves yet.Pros:-Long battery life. I typically shave every other day, so I can go about 2 weeks on a full charge.-Close shave. This razor provides a close and comfortable shave without having to press down, however, I do feel that I have to go over the same spots a couple of times to really get close. I have less irritation with this razor than I have had with previous ones.-Lightweight-Travel lock-Option to use ‘wet’ with shaving cream is nice .-Easy to cleanCons:-Feels flimsy. It is a well -build razor, but it does feel like it could break easily. I’m afraid to drop it or bang it against anything because I’m afraid it will be damaged beyond repair.-Taking off and putting on razor head attachment can be difficult. In order to push the right buttons to make the razor attachment come off you have to kind of position your hand and fingers in a weird way. It takes some getting used to. It’s also tricky to figure out how to align the attachment when putting it back on.-Charger. While the battery does last a long time, I find that the charger is difficult to travel with. It is large and seems like it could break easily.-Included razor pouch/case is cheap and soft, and will not protect razor well .Overall, it’s a great razor, but for the cost, I expect a nice r razor case and a little more durability. |

Philips Norelco HQ8 Spectra Tripleheader Replacement Heads (Health and Beauty) I have the Norelco 8825XL and this is my 3rd replacement set of head that I have purchased from Amazon over the past 8 years. Since it really feels like a new shaver again, it is like buying your current shaver for just 21 bucks.Before buying yet another set of replacement heads, I took a look at all the current shavers, reading all the reviews, figuring that after 8 years, perhaps it was not worth it to spend any more money on my old shaver.In the end, I decided that I’d rather have an 8825XL over any of the current 2012 crop. They are all short in at least one of these areas that my shaver does fairly well with:It is a wet/dry shaver that travels well . There is no bulky and fragile support stand to lug around for those 3 week+ trips.It can be used plugged in when the battery finally fails or stops before I am done shaving.It is completely reliable. Many of the current Lithium battery shavers seem to be dying within 2 years. There is no way to use them without the battery being charged and it appears that the chargers are killing the batteries prematurely. This was never a problem with the old battery technology (tho I have always COMPLETELY drained my batteries before re-charging.. so far I am nearly 3,000 shaves and 8 years with the original batteries).It may not do as well as a razor, but none of the current crop do any better. The $300 Norelco 1280X/42 SensoTouch seems to come close, but they are charging an arm and a leg for the attempt to get the battery technology working almost as well as the older-and-cheaper NiCad technology.I can replace the batteries when they finally do die.In the end, I figured that until someone decides to make a shaver that is clearly better than the one I have now, why not just keep getting these replacement heads every other year until the motor dies, which could easily be 50 years from now.
